European standard EN 131

This European Standard defines terms and specifies the general design characteristics of ladders. Compliance with the standard is not essential, but compliance with the standard guarantees a minimum level of quality to the user.

Maximum load capacity 150 kg. Thickness profiles: 1,2 mm ALU / 1,0 mm Steel. 

Standard NF EN 131 - 1: terms, types, functional sizes

This European Standard defines terms and specifies the general design characteristics of ladders.

Standard NF EN 131 - 2: Requirements, testing, marking 

It details the requirements for general design features, general requirements, test methods and results for ladders.

Decree 96 333

It defines the safety requirements that portable ladders, stepladders and steps must comply to. Compliance to that decree is compulsory in France. The non-implementation of a decree leads to the user, the manufacturer, or distributor, the financial and criminal penalties.  

Standard NF EN 1147

It applies to portable ladders in use by the fire and connected services. The non-portable ladders of the fire services and the ladders used in other professional circumstances are excluded from this standard. The criteria are the same as the standard NF EN 131, but the requirements are much more stringent. Standards available on the website of the AFNOR: www.afnor.fr
